Music
Solos
It can be
very exacting to prepare for and execute a music solo. The solo
can occur in many diverse settings, a band or group setting or
one performer and one instrument. In any event, the hard work
to get there remains the same. First you must understand the
music you will be performing by heart.
Both the piano and
guitar are good examples of
instruments that are well suited to being a solo instrument.
Being able to accompany themselves are these two instruments
best attribute. Other instruments such as the violin or flute
do not share the same attributes.
Pick your music
wisely as it can make a lot of difference in your
performance. Study available music for your instrument to
determine what is best for you in this situation. See if there
are any special requirements for sound amplification. Does it
need more or less sound? Is there extra noise coming from
another business or traffic etc?.
If the
setting is very intimate, such as a wedding; you may not need
any sound amplification at all. Dress well and be
confident. If you do even the smallest acts like
setting up with self-determination, your self-determination
will build.
If you can stand,
do so. This will enable you to play with more breath
support and allow you to be seen. The principles of knowing
your music and crafting a good solo are the same in any type of
music. If you continue to learn
scales and study other musicians solos you will get ideas
of what you would like to say in your solo. Have as
many rehearsals as you can prior to the concert or
performance.
Preparing a solo is a
task that every performer secretly wants and dreads at the
same. If your desire to get noticed for your accomplishments is
strong you should try to play solos. The solo may take a great
deal of preparation and effort, but the end result will be
worth it. If you follow these tips you will go a long way to
performing your solo well.
