Too old to sing
When we are young we have school and then marriage and the
raising of children and a career. As the children leave the nest and your career is on track, you have more time
that is your own and you control what you do and when. This is the perfect time you may want to learn a new skill
and you wonder if you are too old to sing. Too old to sing? I think not. Some people let their personal time turn
into a long, boring existence because they miss the hustle bustle of the life led up to this point. Don't be one of
those people. Take charge and decide to do something for yourself, take up the singing you always wanted to
do. You are not too old to sing. No way.
Voices age
well
There are many skills in our life that seem to slip away over
time. Some ,like gymnastics for example, have a definite time frame in which to excel. Singing is not one of these
skills which automatically deteriorate with age. Learning how to sing can be done at any age. As a matter of fact,
your voice can be very strong up through old age and can actually be better with age! If you look around at some of
the most powerful voices of our time, you will see that they performed well into advanced ages. You are never too
old to sing.
Sing, Sing, Sing
Singing is low-impact exercise
It is true that as we age we need to be careful of which kind
of activities we embark upon. We probably will not choose any high impact exercises like gymnastics or running or
weightlifting, but singing fits the bill of exercise that is low impact and easy on the body. You will have to be
careful to learn to do it right and not let your vocal cords get sore or over-used, but this comes with teaching
and practice. Learning how to sing involves proper use of the breath and as such is a wonderful tonic for your
system. Too old to sing? Too old for yoga or learning to breathe and relieve stress? No. Like yoga, it all starts
with the breath and will relieve stress. I can personally attest that when I am feeling down, just a few moments of
singing can bring a smile to my face. I actually feel better and it sometimes defies description.
Singing increases confidence
Have you ever been at someone's
house at Christmas and felt awkward when the party wants to sing around the piano or go out and carol door to door?
You will no longer feel this awkwardness and will most likely welcome the opportunity to show off just a little
bit. Learning how to sing will increase your social confidence and will enhance the
times with friends at sing-alongs or at a karaoke bar or event. You may even feel inspired to take up another
instrument !
Singing is fun !!
Singing can help you relieve stress, increase your
confidence and maybe even prolong your life. In our busy lives we are oftentimes so concerned with the mechanics of
making a living and raising children that we forget it is ok to have fun. What are you waiting for? Learn to sing
today.
